Samoan Language Week

Talova lava! Thanks AJ for getting us organised today with lava lava and lei. We loved Rudolph's and PJ's mihi in Samoan at our Patu assembly today.

Onesies

I wonder whose idea it was to wear onesies today? It sure looked warm and cuddly!

Taiaha

On Tuesday 19 May, seventeen boys ranging from Year 3 to Year 6 went to Parkway Bush in Wainuiomata to cut kanuka or manuka for rakau to use in Taiaha training. Henare Parker, our Taiaha tutor lead us through the tikanga and it was amazing how a stick that would normally be used for playing became a taonga. Henare said to the boys, "Let the stick choose you." The boys had to think a lot about this and it took quite a while to choose the stick that would suit their strength, personality and size. Thanks to Janine Holcroft for filling in at the last minute to come with us. It was a fantastic day and it was so great to see the comradeship among the boys.

War Art

Today we had to work in groups doing different types of Art about WW1. The charcoal was rather messy but gave a cool effect.
