Cook Off
What can you make with some mystery ingredients and a class competition? Room 6 went in to action and using one sheet of pastry, 6 eggs, 5 rashers of bacon, salt, sugar, flour, coriander, mixed spice, one carrot, one onion, cinnamon, cheese and butter they came up carrot muffins, mini bacon and egg pies, bacon and cheese bread, cheese pie and bacon pancakes. They did an amazing job! The winner chosen by the judges were the bacon pancakes.

Food for Thought
Today Sian Bolton came in for a second session on healthy food choices. We looked at food labelling on cereal boxes. We were surprised how much sugar is in some cereals. When we compare foods we should look at the lowest energy measurement, fat less than 10 per 100g serving, less than 10g of sugar, fibre more than 5g and sodium (salt) less than 400 mg. Our winners were weetbix and rolled oats.
We also looked at sugary drinks and how many teaspoons of sugar in certain drinks!
Sports drinks are OK if you are doing at least an hour and a half of 'hard out' physical activity.

Civil Defence Day
We felt very safe today after hearing from so many organisations that have set up systems to look after us all in a Civil Defence emergency - Red Cross, Navy, Rural Fire Service, Police, Neighbourhood Support, Salvation Army, Fire Police, EQC, Radio NZ, WREMO, Wellington Free Ambulance and Upper Hutt Community Rescue. We also learnt about how to look after ourselves and others.

EPro8 Challenge
Today 12 students from Year 5 and 6 went into an Engineering Challenge called EPro8. E for engineering, Pr for problem solving and o8 for innovate. We had 3 teams of 4 who all worked really hard and ended up with sore brains. One of our teams came second out of 12 schools and can now go into the semifinals. Here is our top team in action.
